Creator marketing campaign for emerging pop artist

The Client

An emerging pop artist with one strong single, a small but engaged social following of about 8,000 followers, and no previous experience with creator marketing. The single was genuinely catchy — the kind of song that, once heard, stayed in your head. But it was not reaching new listeners. Her existing fans loved it, but the song was not breaking beyond her existing circle.

The Challenge

The artist had a song that could go viral — but no infrastructure to make that happen. Two problems:

  • No creator marketing experience. She had never worked with creators, did not know how to identify the right ones, and had no system for managing campaigns or tracking results. The idea of "paying an influencer to post" felt inauthentic and risky.
  • Limited budget for paid ads. Traditional paid advertising was too expensive to reach the scale needed for a viral moment. Creator marketing offered a more cost-effective path to large-scale reach — but only if done strategically.

The Strategy

We built a creator-led audience acquisition campaign — not a series of paid influencer posts, but a strategic system for identifying creators, managing authentic content, and amplifying what worked. See our creator marketing approach →

1. Creator Identification

We analyzed the artist's target audience — demographics, genre affinity, comparable artists — and identified 15 creators whose audience genuinely overlapped with that profile. We did not choose creators based on follower count. We chose based on audience fit, engagement patterns, and how naturally the artist's music could integrate into their content style. The creators ranged from 20,000 to 500,000 followers — the smaller creators often drove better engagement and conversion.

2. Creator Briefs & Campaign Design

We wrote briefs that gave creators creative freedom while ensuring the music was positioned correctly. Rather than scripting a forced ad, we gave each creator the song, a loose creative direction, and the freedom to integrate it in whatever way felt authentic to their content style. We managed UGC rights so that any content that performed could be amplified with paid spend.

3. TikTok Campaign

We launched with 8 TikTok creators, staggered over two weeks. The briefs varied — some creators used the song as a background track for lifestyle content, others created dance-adjacent content, others used it in transition and trend-style videos. The variety was intentional: we wanted to see which creative approach resonated most with audiences.

4. Instagram Reels Campaign

In parallel, we activated 4 Instagram Reels creators with slightly older, more engaged audiences. The Reels content was more lifestyle- and story-driven, integrating the song into content that felt native to Instagram rather than repurposed from TikTok.

5. YouTube Shorts Campaign

We activated 3 YouTube Shorts creators whose content connected to the artist's full music video and YouTube channel — creating a bridge from short-form discovery to deeper engagement.

6. Paid Amplification

By week three, two TikTok creator posts had broken out organically — one reaching 1.2M views and the other 800k. We immediately amplified both with Spark Ads, targeting the audiences that had engaged most. We also boosted the top-performing Reels content. The paid amplification turned organic momentum into a scalable acquisition channel.

The Channels

  • TikTok — 8 creators, organic content, and Spark Ad amplification
  • Instagram Reels — 4 creators with lifestyle and story-driven content
  • YouTube Shorts — 3 creators bridging to full music videos and channel
  • Paid amplification — Spark Ads on TikTok, boosted Reels on Instagram

The Execution

The campaign ran over 10 weeks. Weeks 1-2: creator identification, brief writing, and content production. Weeks 3-4: staggered content posting across all three platforms, with daily performance monitoring. Week 5: identification of top-performing content and launch of paid amplification. Weeks 6-10: continued paid amplification of winning content, retargeting of engaged audiences, and optimization of cost per new listener.

When the first TikTok post broke out organically, we moved fast — amplifying within 48 hours to maximize the momentum window. This speed was critical: organic viral content has a short half-life, and paid amplification is most effective when it catches the wave while it is still rising.

The Results (10 Weeks)

  • 5M+ total video views across TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts
  • 3x increase in Spotify streams — driven by traffic from creator content and paid amplification
  • 28,000 monthly listeners — up from a baseline of 8,000 at the start
  • 1.2M views on the top-performing TikTok — which went semi-viral organically before amplification
  • $0.018 cost per video view on paid amplification — significantly more cost-effective than traditional display advertising
  • 4,200 new Spotify followers — building a lasting audience from the campaign's reach
  • 12k+ saves on Spotify — indicating that the listeners driven by creator content were genuinely engaging with the music

Why It Worked

Audience fit beat follower count. The two creators who drove the most results were not the biggest — one had 80,000 followers and the other had 120,000. But their audiences perfectly overlapped with the artist's target listeners, and their content style naturally integrated music. The creators with 500,000+ followers produced good content but lower conversion, because their audiences were broader and less genre-aligned.

Authentic integration beat scripted ads. We gave creators creative freedom, and the content that performed best was the content that felt most native to each creator's style. The viral TikTok was a lifestyle video that used the song as a background track — not a forced "listen to this song" post. Audiences can tell the difference, and they engage with authentic content and scroll past ads.

Paid amplification turned organic moments into scalable growth. The organic viral post was powerful, but it would have faded within a week. By amplifying it with Spark Ads within 48 hours, we turned a single organic moment into a sustained acquisition channel that drove measurable streaming growth over weeks. This is where creator marketing becomes a growth engine rather than a one-off post.
